What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy supports people to do the things that they need or want to do. It is also a science based health and social care profession that is regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
People often think that "occupation" refers to work, but in fact it refers to every activity that occupies a persons time.
Occupational Therapists (OTs) see beyond a persons difficulties or any diagnosis. We work with the person to identify their specific goals and create a plan to support the person to reach these goals.
The occupations that we all do on a daily basis are vast and unique to the person. But here are some examples of occupations that OT can support with:
-
Getting in and out of your house
-
Getting in and out of the bath
-
Using the stairs
-
Moving in bed
-
Getting in and out of the car
-
Making a cup of tea
-
Eating
-
Going to work
-
Engaging with hobbies
-
Cooking
-
Self care
-
Caring responsibilities
-
Using public transport
-
