Private Occupational Therapy

Hello and welcome to my Shona Kennedy Occupational Therapy and my very first blog post!

I've been considering starting my own private Occupational Therapy practice for some time, and now, with the support of some amazing people, I've set my plans into action.

I started out on my Occupational Therapy journey shadowing the Occupational Therapist at Castle Douglas Hospital every Monday afternoon while I was still at Castle Douglas High School! Fast forward a few years and I have been fortunate to have had varied experience from working with children with developmental co-ordination disorder, adults with enduring mental health needs to people living with neurological conditions. I love supporting people to achieve their goals and make simple changes to improve their lives.

My goal for my private occupational therapy practice is to offer support to individuals when they truly need it. Asking for help requires courage, and I aim to establish a service where people receive assistance promptly. During any wait period, I might have convinced myself that I didn't need the support, even though I really do!

I also want to enable people to take control and pursue activities that bring them happiness. Whether that be getting in and out of bed, increasing independence around the home, re-engaging in an activity following a period of illness or doing something completely new. We will work together using personalised therapy plans tailored to your individual goals.

Within this blog, I intend to share my expertise and knowledge, along with some recent research in the field of Occupational Therapy.
